A Mother's Love for All Children

The story of Flora Johnson and Christopher Pop-In-Kins is a love story, one that grew out of a mother's love for her 5 children. And for all children around the world.

Back around 1983, Flora became inspired by a little elf that resided at her oldest daughter's home. Seeing how the little elf had become a family tradition, it occurred to Flora that children everywhere would enjoy having an elf visit them too. It was this realization that began Flora's journey. Much to everyone's delight, that journey not only changed her life, but the lives of thousands of children and families everywhere.

Wanting to create the perfect elf that everyone would fall in love with, Flora turned to her young grandson, Shawn for inspiration. With Shawn's red hair, sweet innocent face and sparkling eyes, Shawn was the “ideal elf” kids and parents alike would beg to play with. And then she named the little elf after her grandfather, Christopher.

Along with her new Christmas elf, Flora wrote a heartwarming story to tell the tale of how Christopher-Pop-In-Kins convinced Santa to let him visit children each Christmas. And the promise he had to make in order to stay until Christmas eve.

Flora was passionate about the idea of passing on special ways to celebrate the season. She also loved playing games with her kids. So creating the tradition of playing hide and seek with Christopher Pop-In-Kins was a natural fit.

When Flora created her Christmas elf, she envisioned her family—and yours—hiding and finding Christopher as a way to celebrate the magic of Christmas. Besides, only a Christmas elf like the one Flora once made with her own hands could bring so many gleeful giggles from children of all ages!

To Flora, Christmas was about giving, loving and having just as much fun as any child.

A Real Elf That's a Real Friend

In Flora's eyes, Christopher Pop-In-Kins was a real elf. He possessed (and still does) the same childlike qualities we cherish as adults: wonder, kindness, love, curiosity, respect, trust, innocence, and the desire to have fun with a special friend.

One other special quality that Flora wanted to make sure Christopher Pop-In-Kins had was to be a good listener. She knew that kids often feel grown ups don't always have time to listen, so she wanted to make sure each child had someone who would listen to every word they spoke, and never judge them.

The Love for a Little Christmas Elf Grows

People in Flora's neighborhood liked her Christmas elf so much that from 1985 to 2002, she had little choice but to start making Christopher Pop-In-Kins available for people outside her close knit family.

These families saw and heard the joy that Flora's Christmas tradition brought to her family. Not wanting to be left out of the fun, they wanted to include Christopher Pop-In-Kins to their home too.

Flora and her husband rose to the demand and carefully handcrafted every Christopher Pop-In-Kins with the utmost care and love. Flora made sure each elf left her home in perfect condition. Not even a speck of lint was allowed on little Christopher Pop-In-Kins (talk about motherly love!).

Before she knew it, Flora's enchanting Christmas elf was being sent to homes in 49 states across America.

Little did Flora imagine when she first created Christopher Pop-In-Kins that her beloved Christmas elf would enter the 2004 Chicago Gift & Home Market and win the Chicago's Choice Award!

A Mother's Dream Lives On

One of Flora's biggest dreams was to see Christopher Pop-In-Kins warm the hearts and homes of children everywhere. Unfortunately, Flora died before that dream was realized. Yet, even though Flora is no longer here, her spirit lives on in every Christopher Pop-In-Kins and in the hearts of every child who is lucky enough to know him.
